School is a place that is familiar to everyone. Let’s find out what American students do in school.

An official dance party is held about twice a year in high schools in the United States. When the final football game is over for the season there is a homecoming party. Sometimes, students select a king from among the football players, and a queen from among the girls. Every student can attend and have fun with the help of their teachers. Sometimes, to the surprise of everyone, students, who devote all their time to study, come to the party in a beautiful dress.

The most exciting party that students can go to would have to be a prom(毕业舞会). Students attend it in dresses similar to those of Hollywood stars and the atmosphere is comparable to an Oscar Award party. Since such a party is for seniors, students usually stay up the night trying to enjoy their last year in high school.

In American schools, instead of the teachers going to different rooms, students have their own class schedules and go to different classrooms. When a student is away from school, they must have an explanation for being away along with the signature(签名) of a parent. The signed paper is then handed in to the school office. American students also enjoy a number of activities out of school like cheerleading(拉拉队), student government and a host of different sports.

28Whose presence at the homecoming party can make others amazed?

AThe king and the queen acted by students.                BThe laziest student in study.

CThe teacher who offers advice.                     DStudents who study hardest.

29Why do students hold the prom till the next morning?

ABecause they would like to dance and sang madly.

BBecause this is the only chance that they get dressed like film stars.

CBecause students make it as exciting as an awarding party of Oscar.

DBecause this perhaps is the last chance that they can enjoy their school life.

30According to the passage, American students in school ________.

Astudy in the same classroom                  Bhave the same class with each other

Cattend different classes in different places          Dwait for their teachers in their class

31What is this passage mainly about?

AThe organizing of dance parties.            BHomecoming party.

CHow to ask for a leave.                          DSchool life in America.

D

Rainforests provide much of the world’s oxygen. People have been trying to protect them for years. But another type of forest, the cloud forest, is just as important to humans.

These forests are at the tops of mountains, generally near the equator (赤道). These wet, wooded mountaintops are mainly in African and Central and South American countries. They are called “cloud forests” because their height allows for the formation of clouds among the trees. The trees in these forests pull water out of the clouds. The water gathers on the leaves and falls into small rivers below, which flow into towns at the bottom of the mountain. The yearly rainfall in these areas is about 180 centimetres. Cloud forests can pull in up to 60 percent of that. The water is important to the plants and the people in the area. It helps them survive.

Cloud forests are also home to countless species of plants that can’t be found anywhere else. One small cloud forest has as many types of plants as there are in all of Europe. In fact, there are so many that scientists haven’t made a complete list of them yet.

These forests are being destroyed at an increasing speed. Trees are being cut down, and roads are being built in their place. Some people have a goal to get government money to protect the forests. But they have had little success so far. Another way is to take the place of the destroyed plants with new ones. That, too, has been difficult because the plants are so special. There’s plenty of work to be done, but saving the cloud forests is still possible with creative solutions.

32Where can you probably find cloud forests?

AIn North America.                     BFar from the equator.

CIn an African country.                     DAt the foot of mountains.

33What is the main idea of paragraph 3?

AEurope is short of plant types.        BScientists are working on a list.

CCloud forests are getting smaller.          DCloud forests house many plants.

34What will be discussed in the following part of the text?

AWays to protect cloud forests.        BGoals of cloud forest protectors.

CDifficulties in planting new trees.   DSuccesses of getting wide support.

35Where can we probably find the text?

AIn a storybook.                         BIn a travel guide.

CIn a chemistry textbook.                 DIn a geography magazine.

It’s normal for siblings (兄弟姐妹) to fight, but there are things parents can do to help them get along and support each other.

The       61___   (one) step is to find the source of the conflict. Siblings often fight over sharing things, like favorite toys or parents’ attention. Parents can get ahead of the fight by      62     (set) ground rules. It might take some time for kids to get used to the rules. Parents can praise them whenever kids follow the rules. Over time, they          64      (settle) into the rules.

Sometimes    65    same rules won’t apply to siblings equally — for example, an older child might have a little    66   (late) bedtime. Discussing these differences    67   (open) can help kids understand the reasons for rules and accept things that they might find unfair. If older children have more family    68   (responsible) than their younger siblings, parents should check in with them often and make sure they know when to turn    69    parents for support.
