Here are some jobs that let you make a direct impact on others’ lives.

A career advisor

Career advisors help to lighten graduates’ load, often working at high schools, colleges or universities. In addition to consulting with students to help them make career decisions, the advisors also help students practice important job-seeking skills. Although some employers prefer applicants to have a master’s degree in counseling (咨询), not all require one. Pursuing a bachelor of psychology or counseling is a great place to start.

A nutritionist

As far as industries go, health care likely offers the most jobs that help people. Nutritionists work in hospitals, schools or nursing homes to help create meal plans to improve the health of their clients. Along with a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition, clinical nutrition or a related field, you’ll need to be licensed in most states.

A personal trainer

Personal trainers work with people of all ages to build custom fitness plans. Along with performing physical assessments and creating training programs, personal trainers also inspire their clients to stick to a plan so they achieve desired results. You should have a college diploma, along with an associate’s degree in a health or fitness field, and you will need to pass an exam to receive your license.

A special education teacher

A special school can be a place for students with emotional, behavioral or learning challenges. Special education teachers are there to teach them to reach their full potential. As a special education teacher, you should plan and teach lessons according to students’ specific needs and abilities. Special education teachers must have a bachelor’s degree and a state-issued certification.

“I want to work full-time in China, honey.” An overseas call awakened the wife from sound sleep. “Why?” asked the wife with surprise, in a drowsy voice, from the other side of the ocean.

In the United States, he had a great future ahead. At the age of 36, he became the youngest professor in the history of the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University, for his academic achievements. At 40, he became a tenured (终身的) chair professor at Princeton.

When everything seemed perfect and admirable to others, he firmly decided to say goodbye to Princeton University, to an affluent life in the United States, and return to China.

The news spread explosively. Many expressed confusion, many persuaded him, many made fun of him, and still many waited to have a good laugh at him.

He said patriotism is the plainest feeling of a person. Who doesn’t love his motherland, after all? In his heart, the American dream is already something past; the Chinese dream is rising.

After returning to China, he devoted all his energy, worked like crazy, and determined to do something big. He formed a life science research team. Every day, he works 12 to 16 hours at his laboratory. He is Shi Yigong, nicknamed “Da Niu” (someone with extraordinary achievements) by Tsinghua students. His given name, Yigong, comes from an idiom that means “devoted to public interest whole-heartedly”. “So far as I’m concerned, awards are of no special meaning.” Shi says calmly.

In his 18 years of study in the United States, he never forgot his Chinese dream. In the next 18 years, the Chinese dream will be more beautiful and greater by the efforts of Shi Yigong and the likes of him.

Minh Anh Ho is sitting beside a microscope. Many people are busy with other tasks. One is interviewing the mayor for a TV news station. Another is running the electric company. As a researcher for a company that repurposes plastic, Minh Anh Ho is studying a sheet of cling wrap (保鲜膜). “It’s a really important job,” she says. “Plastic takes a really long time to disappear, so it would be good to come up with something else to do with it and not just throw it away.”

The learning center where Minh Anh Ho and her class are spending their day is designed to introduce kids to working life. Students run an imaginary town, with each kid doing a different job in a different business. Each year, about 83% of all sixth graders in Finland go through the program. It teaches them not just about business and working, but also, as Minh Anh Ho’s “job” makes clear, about the circular (循环) economy.

Most societies have linear (线性) economies, which operate on a “take, make, waste” model. Natural resources are taken from the Earth and made into products, which are usually thrown away if left over. In 2016, Finland became the first country to use a “road map” to a circular economy. This model focuses on the transformation of existing products. Businesses rely on recycled or repurposed materials and use less raw (未经加工的) material to make their products. That reduces the amount of waste going into landfills.

Education has always been a central part of Finland’s plan. Kindergarten director Liisa Woitsch is sitting on the floor with students and a broken wooden chair. “Do we just throw it away now,” she asks, “or can you think of anything else that can be done with it?” A little boy pounds on the chair. He says it can be used as a drum.

Anssi Almgren helped design the program. “Children have so many great ideas,” he says. “We want to enable them to think about solutions. But changing a society by educating its youth takes time.”

28. The author describes the learning center in paragraph 1 to ________.

A. make readers better understand the program   B. show how excited the students are

C. express his concern over the program        D. praise the students’ concentration

29. How does the author mainly develop paragraph 3?

A. By providing reasons. B. By following time order.

C. By making comparisons. D. By giving examples.

30. What is the main purpose of a circular economy?

A. To reduce the waste of resources.           B. To keep a higher living standard.

C. To increase the use of raw material.         D. To discover new types of natural resources.

31. What is the text mainly about?

A. The lessons from a learning center.            B. An introduction to linear economies.

C. The education on the circular economy.        D. Finland’s plans on economic development.

Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, the guideline says. Primary and middle schools should provide students with hardworking spirit classes every week, according to the guideline. Schools can also hold activities to give students real- world work experiences. For example , schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree-Planting Day.
